ACCOMPLISHING ANOTHER FIRST IN AVIATION TRAINING

HFA’s Operations Manager, Chris Hayden, in the 171st Air Refueling Wing Simulator.

Last week, High Flight Academy’s team visited the 171st Air Refueling Wing at the Pittsburgh International Airport to learn what it takes to be a United States Air Force pilot.  We found out the rigorous military flight training program is front-loaded with an incredible amount of work on the ground and in the air.  The standards are high and the competition is fierce.   What the 171st wanted to know is if High Flight Academy can help their candidates prepare to meet the challenge.

On March 14th, our team sat down with Lieutenant Colonel Scott Rushe at the 171st to discuss it. The Colonel and his support staff described the requirements and expectations of the military pilot career path. While there, High Flight’s Director of Operations, Chris Hayden, flew the Wing’s advanced aircraft flight simulator to better orient him toward the Air Force flying procedures.  Both sides of the table learned a great deal from each other.  A partnership was formed.

As Lt Col Scott Rushe stated, “this has been a win/win for both of us.”  High Flight is already at work developing a program to prepare military applicants for the military flight screening program non-licensed pilot candidates must complete.  Later this year, we will be hosting several Air Force pilots to meet with our students.  For those in high school or college, the military’s tuition assistance and job opportunities are in their reach.  Stay with us for more on this exciting new opportunity for High Flight and the Air Force.  If you are or you know someone who is looking toward the military aviation program, let us know.  The Air Force and High Flight both share the guiding principles of integrity and service.   We are proud to already be training the next generation of professional aviators.
