How long does it take to get a private pilot certificate?
Most students at High Flight Academy earn their Private Pilot Certificate in 4–6 months when flying daily. The national average is 65–75 hours. We work hard to get you done as safely and efficiently as possible.
How much does flight training cost?

Do you offer financing for flight training?
Yes. High Flight Academy offers more financing pathways than any regional competitor, including the Sallie Mae Airline Career Loan for High Gear students, Stratus Financial, VA & GI Bill benefits, AOPA scholarships, and PA state grants. We are the only non-accredited flight school in the region approved to offer the Sallie Mae Airline Career Loan.
What are your operating hours?
High Flight Academy operates seven days a week from 8:00 AM to 8:30 PM. We are closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day.
What happens if the weather is bad on my scheduled flight day?
Safety is always our top priority. If weather conditions are not suitable for your scheduled flight, your instructor will contact you to reschedule. You will not be charged for weather cancellations. We may use simulator time as an alternative for certain training objectives.
What is a stage check?
Stage checks are periodic evaluations conducted by our Check Instructors, senior instructors who hold additional FAA approval, at key milestones in your training. They ensure you are meeting FAA standards and are ready to move to the next phase of your program.
Can I use my GI Bill for flight training?
Yes. High Flight Academy is approved for VA benefits including GI Bill and VR&E for eligible ratings (Instrument Rating and above). Visit our VA & GI Bill page for full details on eligibility and the enrollment process.
Do I need to be in good physical health to learn to fly?
You will need an FAA Medical Certificate, which requires a medical examination by an FAA-designated Aviation Medical Examiner (AME). Requirements vary by certificate class. Most student pilots qualify for at least a Third Class Medical. Our admissions team can guide you through the process.
