The FAA Requirements

You must meet certain standards and qualifications to be a commercial pilot in the United States.

Here is what the FAA requires:

Age and Language

Be at least 18 years old, and be able to read, speak, write, and understand English.

Certificates and Tests

Hold a commercial pilot certificate with an instrument rating, and pass both the knowledge and practical tests.

1500 Flight Hours

Log 1500 hours total time as a pilot. The FAA's 1500-hour rule is designed to promote the highest standards of safety.
